Looking after your recycled tote bag will prolong the use even more than its previous life/job here are some common tips and issues that can arise with canvas tote bags and how to fix them:
- Fold bag or lay flat after use, hanging the bag can cause a strain on the handle stitching or cause the handles to stretch
- Ripped or torn fabric: If the canvas has ripped or torn, you can fix it by patching the area with a piece of fabric. Cut a piece of canvas fabric that is slightly larger than the tear and place it over the hole. Then, sew the patch in place using a needle and thread. Dorset Bay Bags are made from very strong durable material so hopefully a Dorset bay bag will not need patching up.
- Broken strap: If the strap has broken, you can replace it with a new one. Measure the length of the old strap and cut a new one to the same length. Then, sew the new strap onto the bag using a heavy-duty needle and thread.
- Stains: If your canvas tote bag has stains, you can try cleaning it with a mixture of mild detergent and water. Apply the solution to the stain and scrub gently with a soft brush. Rinse the bag thoroughly and let it dry completely before using it again.
- Loose threads: If there are loose threads on the bag, you can trim them with scissors or a pair of clippers.
